Buena Vista is an area in Miami, Florida, United States. It is located to the south and north of Little Haiti, as well as the Design District of Miami.
The area is primarily residential, with many historic single-family homes that date back to the 1920s. It is located within the Buena Vista Eastern Historic District, which contains some of the oldest homes in the area and is a National Register Historic District.
Buena Vista, which was established and grew during the 1890s was a small community whose expansion and establishment was similar to that of Miami. The land was developed into the Biltmore subdivision and Shadowlawn subdivisions during the 1920s Land Boom. These are still in use today. The neighborhood was originally populated by many Florida cracker immigrants from North Carolina and Georgia. Local establishment owners quickly became fond of it. They reflect the socioeconomic status of their original owners. The houses include fine examples of Mission, Craftsman, Mediterranean Revival, Art Deco, and Mission styles.
Buena Vista and Lemon City were established in the early nineteenth century. They are among the oldest communities in Miami-Dade County. The Buena Vista region was once a small village located near, but not inside, the corporate lines of the city of Miami, Like Princeton. Although it was predated by Lemon City, a hamlet a bit further north, Buena Vista is the same age as Miami’s city.
Buena Vista was built on a huge rock ridge between the Atlantic Ocean, Florida Everglades and was covered in dense pine forests. A survey by the government in the early days of the town documents its history. The locations of the parcels of land are still based on this document.
The old Dixie Highway (N.E.) was extended northward by new regions. Avenue D (N. Miami Avenue) and 2nd Avenue, which were extended northwards from N.E. 36th Street was a street that existed between the late 1910s to the start of the Boom era, which saw the growth of Miami’s population. N.E. was the new location of Miami’s northern city limits. 38th Street was included in this process. The new Buena Vista town was established officially on August 4, 1924. It was then annexed by the City of Miami along with its neighboring communities of Silver Bluff and Coconut Grove, which were previously incorporated, a bit south of Miami Shores.
