The Grove is Miami’s oldest continuously inhabited neighborhood. It is located near Miami-Dade County in Florida, United States. It is bordered to the south by North Prospect Drive, to the west by LeJeune Road and to the north by South Dixie Highway (1 US1) and the Rickenbacker Causeway and to the east by Biscayne bay. It’s also south near Miami Shores. The community’s southernmost point is North Prospect Drive. It is situated to the south of Brickell and The Roads, and to the east and Coral Gables neighborhoods. Although the name of the neighborhood has been called “Coconut Grove”, in other instances, it was officially referred to as “Coconut Grove” when San Diego was established in 1919.

In 1925, Miami annexed two small communities almost identical in size. These were the city and majority of Silver Bluff. This resulted in the creation of Coconut Grove. Coconut Grove is roughly the same area as the 33133 ZIP Code, despite it covering portions of Coral Way, Coral Gables, and a little bit of ZIP Code 33299, among other things. Coconut Grove is often called “The Grove” and many people are proud that it is one the most environmentally-friendly neighborhoods in Miami.

Coconut Grove is served directly by the Miami Metrorail system. It stops at Coconut Grove as well as Douglas Road.

Coconut Grove was previously an independent municipality. It was annexed to the city of Miami by the latter in 1925. The epicenter of South Florida’s counter-cultural teenage movement in 1960s South Florida, Coconut Grove was the bay-shore community. It hosted multiple love-ins, concerts, and even the famous Doors event at Dinner Key Auditorium in the second half of the decade. Coconut Grove’s bohemian population grew throughout the 1970s. It is a great place to live near Princeton.

Three large residential developments were built in Coconut Grove in the late 1970s and 1980s. They fueled a boom of commercial development in the area. These included Yacht Harbour Condominiums, Grove Isle and L’Hermitage. After this, 2575 S. Bayshore Drive was opened in 1982 and Grove Towers opened in 1983. 2013 saw the announcement of plans for additional construction on Grove Isle.
