Miami, located in Florida’s southernmost tip, is a city that offers the most cultural diversity in the country. Miami is South Florida’s biggest city and economic engine. It has a lot to offer residents and visitors alike, from a vibrant social scene to relaxed tropical vibes.

It is possible to trace back 10,000 years the earliest evidence of Native Americans living in the area that would become modern-day Miami. The region was inhabited primarily by the Tequesta Indians before the arrival of European missionaries in 1500s. The semi-nomadic tribe lived primarily on fishing and hunting, and was mainly found along the banks of the Miami River.

The Tequesta Indians weren’t the only ones to have set foot in the region. Evidence of an ancient civilization is also found in the Miami Circle, an area made up of holes in limestone bedrock and discovered in Downtown Miami near Miami Shores.

Ponce de Leon was the first European to arrive in Florida. Ponce de Leon arrived on the peninsula in 1513, marking the beginning of European interest. Pedro Menendez de Aviles, a Spanish explorer, closely followed him, and claimed the land in Spain when he arrived in 1566 to search for his son.

The Jesuit Mission was established in 1567. It was later abandoned due to Native hostility. The Tequesta population declined over the next few years, mostly due to inability to deal with the diseases introduced by Europeans. They were weakened and became a target for neighboring Native tribes. This forced them to flee to Cuba.

Despite several missions and forts being established, the Miami area remained largely untouched until 1870 when the Brickell family established a trading post, commonly known as Brickell Point, near the Miami River.

New York’s arrival in 1896 of the railroad, and later the incorporation of Miami, were a significant milestone for the city and its residents. After the 1920s Florida land boom, commercial growth started to take place. Miami has grown to be a major metropolis and is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the US. Even further south, you might choose to stay at a hotel in Princeton.

It is home to over 450,000 residents and is one of America’s most diverse cities. It is also home to one of the most important financial centers in the country, just after New York.
