The Everglades National Park is located just a short distance from Miami and protects one Florida’s most unique natural features, the Everglades. These swamplands are home to over 1.5 million birds, alligators and crocodiles. The entire area is basically a river that flows to the ocean every day.
The park has boardwalks and walking routes for wildlife watching. It also features a Visitors Center and trails. One of the most well-known walking routes in the area is the Anhinga Trail. It starts at the Royal Palm Visitor Center, and runs through the park. This trail is only a quarter of a mile in length, but it passes through an area where alligators or other wildlife are common. The trail is accessible for wheelchairs and doesn’t require any physical exertion.
One of the best ways to get a sense of the Everglades area is by airboat. These high-speed boat excursions allow travelers to observe alligators as well as other wildlife in the streams and marshes. This half-day tour includes transportation from your Miami Shores hotel to Everglades Alligator Farm, an alligator show at Everglades Alligator Farm and return transportation to your hotel.
There are many crocodiles, dolphins, and other wildlife to be seen, but you cannot just take a boat trip to see them, or go trekking to have the chance to see alligators and turtles.
The National Park Service says there are many more things to do in the country’s largest subtropical forest, which is also the largest worldwide. The park is a National Treasure and an International Biosphere Reserve. It preserves an exceptional terrain, which serves as a critical habitat for many rare and endangered species.
It’s almost impossible to navigate the narrow mangrove tunnels of Everglades without a kayak. A paddle is the best option for navigation in the broad waters of south west Florida. A GPS cannot accurately navigate because they move. It is an amazing experience. This is a great way to get close to nature and immerse yourself in the beauty of the environment. Just keep traveling south of Princeton and you can’t miss it!
The Everglades, located in Florida, are the only subtropical preserves in North America. It is amazing how diverse the park is, considering there is very little variation in altitude. You won’t find a wider range of flora anywhere else. The variety of species that birds can see is what attracts bird photographers. Some bird photographers are even allowed to photograph alligators.
